6 Months!

Here is my latest belly photo.

This was just last weekend at my baby shower.

[note: the shadow, is just a shadow, I think it sorta makes my belly look larger than it is] :)

Junk Dreams

h1 November 10th, 2009

Last night I watched a documentary called Junk Dreams, by Skye Borgman, at the Ross Raglan Theatre.  If was full of coastal scenes, marinas, open water, etc. ….and it made want to go back to the coast so bad.  I grew up on the Oregon coast, and I think it will always feel like home, no matter how accustomed I think I am, to a new town.  Don’t be surprised if I start popping out with some aquatic inspired artwork soon!

It also reminded me of how much I love documentaries and how I’d like to spend more time immersing myself in other art forms.  Inspiration is what I feel I’ve been lacking lately.  Reading, looking at images other than my everyday scenes, walking around with a camera, and spending time outdoors can keep me inspired and pumped full of creative energy.  Wandering the library for random books is also a great thing.

I’d love hear about other artists’ experience with this sort of thing.  Inspiration and how they fill themself. So please chime in.

November Show at Nightfire Natural Foods

h1 November 2nd, 2009

My work will be going up at Nightfire Natural Foods in Klamath Falls.  There will be a mix of originals and framed reproduction prints.  All pieces are available for purchase and everything should be hung by about 11 or 12. (I’m not the one doing the hanging, so that’s why I’m not exactly sure on the time)   I was just finishing up some framing tonight and I’m really excited to see what it all looks like together on the wall!  I hope you can stop by.

….scratch that.  I’m not exactly sure when they will be hung.  I delivered them today and I’ll let you know when they’re up!

Sorry about that.

News!

h1 October 29th, 2009

“Orphan Girl” prints are now available for purchase at Matteo’s Coffee in Klamath Falls.  They are matted in 11″ x 14″ (image size 8×12) &  16″ x 20″ (image size 12×18) white mats and ready to frame. I’m really happy with how they turned out.  The large size is $50/ea.  and the smaller one is $30/ea.

Plus, if you get it through Matteo’s, 20% of the purchase price goes to a local non-profit organization, currently working to meet the needs of an orphanage in Haiti.

Several of my abstract prints are also available in the same display for just $20/ea.

I Did It!

h1 October 20th, 2009

I decided to go for it and get that studio!  I love having a space dedicated to my art.  It’s definitely a dream come true that I didn’t envision happening for quite some time.  I’ve convinced myself that if the opportunity arises, you just have to take it, instead of sitting around wondering “what if”  or “if only,” years down the road.

The studio has three rooms.  One will be an office/showroom space, the other a painting room, and the third room will be for storage.

I plan to make some changes to the space (wall color, flooring, lighting) but that won’t be for a few months.   After that is done, I’m looking forward to some open studio nights!

Here’s a little peek.  You can see them all here:

Update

h1 October 3rd, 2009

The story continues….

Yesterday, my hero of a husband, talked to the owner of that building and apparently there were a few spaces for rent that were not on the list we were given!  He showed them to us yesterday and there is one that really stands out to me.  It is more expensive than the previous one I was interested in, but also better.  The owner is a really good guy and the building has lots of benefits like: after hours you have to buzz someone in (good for safety), there is a conference room that is free to use for events, a snack/break room, the elevator operator can sort of act as a receptionist (signs for you packages, and something else I forgot).  Anyway, lots to think about!

This is the only photo I could find online, of the building. I would be on the 6th floor.

My Search for a Studio

h1 October 2nd, 2009

My latest news is that I’m on the hunt for an out-of-home studio.  I’ve had this dream for quite some time, but it’s almost one of those dreams that you’re afraid to dream.  I suppose because it seems risky, I wonder if it’s doable, and ultimately, if I’m being honest, it says to the artist, “yes you are good at what you do, so much so, that this investment is worth it.”  Maybe I’m alone in these thoughts, but I can imagine other artists out there can relate.  Yesterday I found what I thought was the perfect place.  Great location, great layout, great price.  I was beeming all day with plans of painting in my downtown studio, visitors coming, making a door sign, open studio nights with music, refreshments, and laughter………and then I took Jim to see it yesterday and I was informed that actually, it was not available to rent because the whole section is going to be renovated.  It sounded like a big project.  I guess the girl that showed it to me the day before was new, and didn’t know.

Oh, I was crushed.

I will keep looking.  Something is right around the corner…. I hope.
